Marine Hotel raise vital funds for WorkFit

Many of our WorkFit employers choose to support our work in a range of ways alongside employing candidates.

We were delighted to visit the Marine Hotel in Devon recently to collect a cheque for their fundraising efforts in 2017. The hotel has raised a fantastic £1,172 from the sale of raffle tickets during their “Tinsel & Turkey’ coach trip stays in 2017.

The hotel employs Amy in their restaurant and she carries out range of duties including laying tables and taking orders. You can read more about her placement here.  https://www.dsworkfit.org.uk/2016/10/17/marine-hotel-paignton/

Amy registered with WorkFit in 2016. She’d heard about the programme through her parent’s involvement with their local Down’s syndrome support group. Amy and her mum, Tracey, met with their local Employment Development Officer to discuss her ambitions and previous work experience in hospitality and tourism. Following a successful interview and a short work trial Amy is now a paid, permanent member of staff at the Marine Hotel.

Nicola, one of Amy’s colleagues said: “At first we were all a bit nervous about Amy coming to join us because we didn’t want to let her down, but once we had the training from Workfit we were re-assured that we could adapt the way we work to make it suitable for Amy. She is a pleasure to have on our team and is very popular with our guests too.”

We are delighted by the Marine Hotel’s on-going support for WorkFit and thank them for raising this money which will allow us to support other candidates like Amy in the future.
